The closest new restaurant to Wynwood Road this year opened on July 8, 2026. It sits at 8885 Gadsden Highway, in the building that used to hold Luke's Hot Dogs and Crazy Horse. The Trussville Tribune ran the story under an Argo dateline. A driving route from Wynwood Road to that address comes to about 2.65 miles. Most of Trussville's 2026 restaurant news has gone to the Gadsden Highway and Chalkville Mountain Road strip closer to downtown. For Wynwood Lakes, the newest table that is actually open and actually close is Redemption by Straight Mountain Foods.
Measured From Wynwood Road
Wynwood Lakes sits on the northeast edge of Trussville. Here is how the places in this post line up from the neighborhood. The measurements come from mapping data, and they aren't all the same kind of measurement:
| From Wynwood Road to... | Approximate distance | How it was measured |
|---|---|---|
| Redemption, 8885 Gadsden Highway | 2.65 miles | Driving route |
| Deerfoot Parkway | 1.8 miles west | Map coordinate comparison |
| Gadsden Highway / U.S. 11 | 2 miles south | Map coordinate comparison |
| The Silos Golf Club, 7905 Roper Road | 5.4 miles | Straight line between address points |
Redemption has a Trussville mailing address, and MapQuest lists it as 8885 Gadsden Hwy, Trussville, AL 35173. Local news still treats that stretch of Highway 11 as Argo. That fits a neighborhood whose closest commercial road runs east toward Argo as much as west toward downtown.
What Redemption Serves, and Why It Has That Name
Redemption is the brick-and-mortar step for Straight Mountain Foods, a business that started with catering and a food trailer. Founder Colt Reese told the Tribune he had been thinking about a restaurant "for a couple of years, and then we were just given the right opportunity for it."
The name comes from what came before. An earlier restaurant closed for personal reasons, and a few years later a fire destroyed the food truck. Reese put it this way when the restaurant opened:
"Phoenixes don't rise in one dramatic burst. They rise feather by feather, one wing beat at a time. Redemption is about second chances."
The menu covers lunch and dinner, plus brunch on weekends. A June 25 Facebook post described lunch as meat-and-two comfort food, with chef creations alongside, and called the whole thing "Southern comfort creative chaos." In its opening week, Bham Now listed two dinner examples: a Red Snapper Oscar with vegetables, and a 10-ounce porterhouse pork chop with garlic parmesan mashed potatoes and brown butter glazed carrots. If you followed the food truck, Bham Now named burgers, wings, brisket, loaded potato salad and smoked mac and cheese as its known dishes.
MapQuest's current listing shows Redemption open until 8 p.m. The phone number is 205-282-0602, and calling before a weeknight dinner is the quickest way to check hours. One early reviewer there singled out the greens, the pulled pork and the cheesecake.
Where the In-Town Openings Stand in October
The other 2026 openings are all farther from Wynwood Road, and several still have no opening date. Two of them are open now on Gadsden Highway closer to downtown:
- Einstein Bros. Bagels is at 1430 Gadsden Highway, Suite 100, in the former Starbucks. It serves breakfast, lunch and specialty coffee.
- Ruscelli's Italian now runs the kitchen inside Marty's Trussville at 1423 Gadsden Hwy #131. Marty's changed hands in June, when Phil Mims retired and passed it to Mujtaba Syed and partners. The menu includes Pizza Strippers, Pizza Tacos, Pizza-rittos and Quesadilla Zone calzones.
Three more were still in progress at the last update:
- Raising Cane's at 1672 Gadsden Highway, where Pet Supplies Plus used to be, was under construction as of the Tribune's July 26 update, with no opening date announced.
- Culver's at 5905 Trussville Crossings Boulevard, in the former BancorpSouth building at Chalkville Mountain Road, was still listed as under construction in Cahaba Sun's September 8 roundup.
- Big Whiskey's American Restaurant and Bar will be the chain's third Alabama location, after Hoover and Alabaster. It was still "coming soon" in that same September roundup, with no construction or opening dates announced.
All five are on the Trussville side of the corridor. From Wynwood Lakes, getting to them means heading south and west, past Redemption's stretch of Highway 11 or toward Deerfoot Parkway.
The Roads in Between
Deerfoot Parkway is the main road connecting Highway 11 and I-59, and the planned widening is meant to take pressure off Highway 11. As announced in February, the project timeline is about a year of planning, bids in Spring 2027, and construction estimated for 2027 to 2028. The current parkway will carry this fall's traffic, and the detours come later.
On the interstate, I-59's third northbound lane is now open between I-459 and Chalkville Mountain Road, and the U.S. 11 ramp to I-459 North has reopened. Remaining work on that project is scheduled through spring 2027.
The Farmhouse at The Silos, a Longer Drive
The other 2026 opening that doesn't fit the in-town pattern is on Roper Road. The Farmhouse at The Silos opened April 8 at 7905 Roper Road, inside what used to be Trussville Country Club. You don't need a golf membership to eat there. Ryan Zargo runs it. He opened The Farmhouse of Springville in 2020, and the menu here covers burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, pasta and steaks cut in-house.
The hours have changed since opening day. The restaurant's own page now lists full service from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Before the kitchen opens, it offers beer, snacks, drinks and grab-and-go items from 7 to 11 a.m.
The club around the restaurant changed hands on June 10, 2025. A group including Mark Dillard, Mark Nix, Mike Gunter, Matthew Bennett, Johnny Brunson and Scott Barnett bought it. The 18-hole course is semi-private, with several holes along the Cahaba River. Guest rates for 18 holes are $55 Monday through Thursday and $60 Friday through Sunday, cart included. Golfers can order food from the course by scanning a QR code on the cart.
At about 5.4 miles straight-line from Wynwood Road, The Silos makes more sense as a planned outing than a quick weeknight dinner. October has two tournaments on the course. Trussville Daybreak Rotary holds its 35th annual tournament on October 5, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start and grab-and-go breakfast from The Farmhouse. First Baptist Church Trussville's Fore God Golf Tournament follows on October 19, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The Calendar From Argo to the Parade
The fall calendar runs in both directions from the neighborhood. A few of these dates are on the Argo and Springville side of Wynwood Lakes:
- October 12, Argo Health Fair. Monday, 10 a.m. to noon, in the classroom at Argo City Hall, 100 Blackjack Road.
- November 13 to 15, Homestead Hollow Arts and Crafts Festival. Open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, just off I-59 at Exit 154. Adult admission is $10, ages 12 and under get in free, and groups of 20 or more pay $8 each. The festival site lists crafts, pioneer demonstrations, food and live entertainment.
- November 20 to 22, North Pole Expo. At the Trussville Civic Center, 5381 Trussville Clay Road, with 150-plus vendors, food trucks, entertainment and Santa. Admission and parking are free.
- November 24, Community Caroling and Tree Lighting. From 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mall in Trussville. The mayor lights the tree at 5:45 p.m.
- December 12, Trussville Christmas Parade. Starts at 2 p.m. under the theme "Christmas Through the Years," with lineup starting at noon and a rain date of December 13. The Chamber's registration page and the Tribune describe the route a little differently, so check the final route with the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce before picking a spot along it.
If you're heading out for any of these and want an early dinner, Redemption is about 2.65 miles from Wynwood Road and serves weekend brunch on Homestead Hollow's festival Saturday and Sunday. The Gadsden Highway openings are there for nights you're already headed into town.
I keep track of what opens, what's still under construction and how the Deerfoot timeline moves, because those things shape daily life on Wynwood Road and what a Wynwood Lakes home is worth.
